Joined EAL on March 11, 1957, when Captain Eddie was still running it (and no one but he and Sid Shannon could make decisions involving over $100). Based at LGA and flew Martin 404's and CV440s. Got to fly all the Constellations, and the DC7, DC-8 and B720 as 1st Off. Made Captain on Constellation; but preferred to fly the routes that paid better and gave me better time off as CoPilot.
Was elected Co-Pilot Rep and served for about a year with Jack Young as Capt. Rep. in 59.
Transferred to MIA in January, 1967. EWR in March, 1969; then to ATL end of '69 to fly Capt. on DC9. Back to MIA in '71 (I think) for B727. Flew A300 and L1011s until retirement in 1988—3 years before age would have mandated it.
Tried to bring participative management. to EAL (ahead of its time), in 1966. Involved in Employee Involvement effort late in career.
Ran for Council Chairman and lost, sometime in last few years.
Was ALPA regional Media Representative for 14 years, while in Miami.
Have had a good life since leaving EAL: learned to invest successfully, lectured all over the US, authored Take Stock: A Roadmap to Profiting from your First Walk Down Wall Street (© Dearborn Trade) - now in 3rd printing and published in Japan. Founded Investware Corporation, a successful software company I sold in 2003, which developed and produced software products to implement my investment methodology.
Am retired and living with Dianne, my wife of 33 years, in Davie, FL. And am now following my passion—to bring financial literacy to the Baby Boomers and Millennials who were raised without it and have some troubled times ahead to look forward to.
