“Live” Interviews from the Silverliners Convention”
By Dorothy Gagnon, Host & Webmaster
Captain Neal Holland, along with his Host, Don and I (Gagnon) and our Setup Assistant, Emre Martinelli, (what would we do without Emre?), took the EAL Radio Show onsite for live interviews from the Silverliners Convention at the Wyndham Grand Hotel at Harborside in beautiful Jupiter, Florida.
We heard the excitement flowing from the gals during their break when we arrived and guess what folks…they still show how awesome they continue to be with the excitement of meeting their peers again and talking of days back when. They were having a wonderful time since the Convention began May 15… and it wasn’t over yet. They had a banquet Thursday evening to look forward to another fantastic night to celebrate their camaraderie, as it ended Friday, May 18.
Obviously, their camaraderie didn’t end when Eastern closed as they continue to carry it through adding many chapters all over the country; keeping the legacy of Eastern always in the limelight. The Silverliners don’t just party; they celebrate life by delving into charities to help by either volunteering their time, or monetary donations to worthwhile charities. They are truly the spirit of Eastern that will never die.
Between Conni and Colleen DeFelice they scheduled us to interview after their morning meeting with some of the gals. How great was that show of Silverliners as they graciously joined us and gave us insights on not only their tenure with Eastern but some significant and unique experiences they told us about that they had while flying aboard the Eastern Great Silver Fleet. Each one of these amazing former Eastern FAs, projected so much enthusiasm and the spirit of our former airlines, we certainly were proud of all of them.
sincerely thank those Silverliners that came to the microphone and shared a
memory or two; one gal got her private pilot license while at EAL; another
gentleman shared with us he was the very last EAL HR employee, while another
flew on the very last EAL flight; one started as Secretary and then became an
FA; etc., etc., etc. We only wished we could have given each one longer to tell
The Silverliners showed us too, that though some left
their chosen field as an FA, their life after continues on with the same
energy. Some went back to school, some attended classes; they all showed that
they conquered making it through those last days, and won in spite of the
adversity they were handed. They pursed other avenues and gave us their
insights on their “Life After Eastern” as well as sharing their EAL memories.
We send our love and thanks to the Silverliners and to those who took time to interview. So, please check our website soon for a list of names of those fantastic ladies that we interviewed. In the meantime, listen in on Monday evening May 21 to personally hear the taped interviews that Neal has planned for Episode 366, which airs at 7:00 PM EDT, and enjoy listening to the interviews of Captain Eddie’s Silverliners!
